Chapter 1-6 added!
Chapter 7-12 added!

Description:
You know when you're playing a game, and you go "Now that was awesome, I wish someone was here to see that"? That's kind of what this journal is here for. I played through Dead Space, and wrote down some moments I thought were cool, boring, exciting, etc. I felt that with this game, it would be appropriate to comment on my experience because its a horror game.

This is for those who want to know what to expect, before they play it. And if you already have, you can easily compare your experience to mine. It's not a review, because I don't critique things with an open mind. And near the end, it was hard to write without spoiling. The beginning of Chapter 7 marks where the secrets of the game, the ones that didn't get advertised or promoted, are held. So if you're afraid of spoilers, it would be a good idea to not read past that point.

Chapter 1
------------------

My first chapter experience was marred because I had prior knowledge of what was going to happen. Not everything, just most of the opening shock and awe parts. To enjoy the opening of Dead Space, at least like I wanted to you need to have no knowledge of how to take down the enemies, how they act, and what the Gameplay is like because it really throws a cog into dead spaces well oiled machine.

One complaint I have so far is the controls. They are unique, and in a shooter type game that's a bold move. Its not a bad configuration, but it will take getting used to.

An immediate bonus to the games aesthetic appeal is the in-game H.U.D. The items menu, remaining ammo indicator, and the text audio, as well as video and audio files, take full advantage of the third person view. The windows appear slightly in front of Isaac's face and are semi transparent. You can walk and watch/listen/read at the same time and interact with the environment (pick up items, open doors, fight enemies). The reality of the experience is so much more amplified and believable.

Chapter 2
------------------

In this second chapter, I realize that knowing exactly where to go and that I have zero chance of getting lost, takes a lot of fright out of the game. I know I wouldn't be exploring and going the wrong way, on purpose, if I knew I might get hopelessly lost. Being confused seems like a trademark of the Survival Horror Genre. So Dead Space, for me, is quickly turning into a scary action game over a S.H.

I've finally gotten used to and made peace with the controls. What felt strange at first (reloading/curb stomping) now feels almost second nature.

The detail of the world is a constant source of admiration.

Chapter 3
------------------

I went into chapter three expecting to be scared. Unfortunately, the one part that would have been completely frightening, was something that I had been expecting, and wanting, to see. So it was more cool that frighting. Though looking back, I wonder if I would have thought the same if the experience had been more pressuring. Maybe the developers are introducing all this elements just to expertly craft them together into a terrifying experience.

Chapter three was home to one other potential fright that would have screwed me over if I had not known about it. Also, it seemed too short compared to the previous two, maybe I'm just confused.

However I must report my experience it was awesome. Zero gravity is extremely well done and an asset to the quality of the game.

Chapter 4
------------------

Chapter four carried Dead Space's vibe of growing anxiety and ran with it. Though there weren't any scares there were a few parts where I was startled.

During this chapter, I've been trying to get good with the stasis power. At first, I would use it under pressure, causing ti to miss, and me to feel like stasis was useless. However, with determination, I slowly realized where and when to use it. I'm not a pro yet, but stasis will come in handy now that I know what to expect from it.

Chapter 5
------------------

S...so, I'm running low on health, I guess I was using it too frivolously as well as playing around, and being too careless. Now, when I need it It's source. Its a good thing, but I'm worried Isaac.

Just a few minutes after this, Isaac was hideously decapitated, it was awesome. I had my chance to buy health, but I chose to buy a flamethrower instead. Wouldn't you?

Second later...I've made the decision to go back and buy health.

So I managed to get past where I was stuck, I think. It was intense. I just figured out how to quick switch weapons too.

I would get the flamethrower right before the floor gets vented, I would. I knew it would happen. Had I been paying attention, and thinking, I would be fine right now.

Chapter five is pushing me. It getting difficult to gust walk through levels. I did not expect it, and paid the price, several times.

Great Chapter, I need to start thinking ahead.

Chapter 6
------------------

Yeah, chapter six is weird, but I'm doing well so far. The gameplay in this level is pretty interesting if not, dare I say, cool.

Chapter six reveals another of the various Necromorph breeds, one that doesn't even attack you.

I just had a thought, I think the doors might be mini load screens.

Now whenever I see an oxygen tank, or a stasis pod, I know that I'll need them soon. They're only around puzzle areas, which makes what's going to happen pretty obvious. I think there should be (for stasis at least) one in a certain area that serves as a standard stasis refill and for puzzles, then you would have to run back and forth more which would open up the opportunity for more scares.

The ending of chapters six...what an ending.

I'd seen a video of this boss before, and I thought it looked stupid. It even turned me off of the the game for a while. But, I can safety say, If any game can drive home the saying "You couldn't knock it till you try it," it's dead space.

Chapter 7
------------------

This chapter seems more of the same old. Go here, do this, go back, go somewhere else. I know a lot of good games are like this, but Dead Space offers little to no exploration along the way to make up for this fact.

I know which way is the correct or "suggested" way, So I go the opposite. But each time I do, I'm faced with a path that I know I'll go through eventually.

There have been a few Power-node doors, these use up one Power-node which means that's one less when you want to upgrade something. It's exploration with a price.

Chapter seven was alright. It was kinda boring, not much happened. Hopefully this was just a plot chapter, one that focuses on building the story without much action.

Chapter 8
------------------

Very cool so far. Nice use of Kenisis. I just found the pulse rifles alternate fire (WOW! so late in the game.......), but it's cool nonetheless.

Chapter eight felt incredibly short, but still pretty cool. Much better than the first time in the gunner.

I found a new weapon, the Ripper. <3

Chapter 9
------------------

I now realize that the Panel which displays the ship (seen in the transport pod) gives you an idea of how big the level will be and what/how may floors you'll go on. If i interpret it right, it might help me plan ahead.

Being away from the Ishimura is more unsettling than I expected.

It's been exciting so far. Got some interesting story points and some cool gameplay.

Depressing, that's what this chapter was. Poor guy....

Chapter 10
------------------

The mini games, I must say, are pretty cool. If they were explained a little more , including the rewards system, it would have been a better experience. But with that being said, both were great. Zero-G basketball could be made into an arcade game. It reminded me of the uniqueness of Portal.

An engineering buzz saw should be able to take out a couch...this game needs environment damage.

I don't think I've seen a Store forever, I would really like one now. I'm going to need a lot more health for this one.

Something to note, trying weapons late in the game exploits the fragile balance between upgrade weapons and unmodified ones. So get all your giggles in early so you find the right weapon for you. Or stick to 1 or 2 throughout the game and change it up on another play through.

Large med packs for the win.

The way you killed this boss was cool, using the panel to "test" the ships engine resulting in it's engines spewing flames. If I had upgraded stasis, I'm sure that part would have been much easier.

The flaw with choosing what to upgrade (on my part at least) is that I upgrade what I think is powerful or will make the game easier, or just what I'm good with. I choose the rig and plasma cutter, and added other things here or there to other weapons, but that means I have to rely on those two and try to compensate for a lack of anything else. And if plasma cutter and health become scarce, the difficulty goes up significantly and I have to focus more. I love it that way, but I'm just saying I wished I had focused a little more instead of spreading my upgrades in a random way.

Two more chapters left and this one was pretty long, so I look forward to the others. Now that the behemoth is gone, I expect the next boss(es) to be even better.

Chapter 11
------------------

Considering this one is titled "Betrayal," I'm not feeling too happy and it feels like this is going to be a long one.

I don't think I've ever seen a Bench and a Store in the same place, let alone right when you step off a shuttle, something tells me I should prepare for the worst.

Something I forgot to mention is that enemies drop various items, including money.

The Ripper works extremely well when you're jumped by multiple enemies. I just used stasis on one enemy and he created a sort of barricade that the others couldn't get past and I just used the Ripper and sliced away. It's...It's just too incredible for words!!

The Marker is a beauty.

I was a little disappointed when I found out that there would be other characters along side you, but they have always provided a source of relief. And this latest bit of dialogue made me realize that I've grown to like them. Even as voices, they have a strong, believable personalities. Very well done voice acting.

Lights!

Dear god, the ripper so awesome. They were all coing after me, even right next to me. I didn't get touched thanks to stasis adn the Ripper. I have to give mad props to this weapon, MAD props. I didn't think the Ripper was capable of something like that.

Its also interesting to back where it all started, so long ago. I view this place with completely different eyes.

...I honestly did not see that coming.

Chapter 11 was awesome! One last Chapter? (don't end dead space)

Chapter 12
------------------

I wish they would have just put a video of the shuttle flying to the planet. I know they're going for the in-game cut scene shpeal, but it would have been nice there, to see the starts and the planet and all fill the screen.

I'm going to put in writing right now, what I've been thinking. That girl isn't real. I don't care what she is, the leader of the Necromorphs or a figment of Isaac's imagination. All that matters is that from the first time I saw her, I knew she couldn't be what she appears.

Told you.

I'm finding a lot of ammo. Are they getting me ready for a boss battle? That, and this epic music.

If that was the last boss, it was incredible, but waay too short.

It was pretty long in my opinion, for a game from EA I was expecting at most 8 maybe 9.

I didn't read it because you said there was spoilers, so you know.
But, my real question is, what is this topic actualy about? 'Cause I'll read if I had any idea other than that it was about Deadspace.

Alright, I added a description, hopefully that will clear up the question of what this is. But if you have more, let me know.
